The History Behind Zoflora…
The Zoflora story started way back in 1922 with the founding of Thornton and Ross by business partners Nathan Thornton and Philip Ross. Back then, Nathan Thornton was the chemist and works manager at a tar distillery and ammonia works in Huddersfield, which produced a whole range of coal tar by-products, including disinfectants and soaps.
In the early 1920s, there was no such thing as a nice smelling disinfectant. The main substance people used, carbolic acid, was effective at killing germs but left behind a horrible odour. Mr Thornton spotted a gap in the market, and used his specialist knowledge to develop Zoflora disinfectant – a powerful disinfectant with twice the germ-killing power of carbolic acid, and with beautiful fragrance oils extracted from real flowers.
From Humble BeginningS
A Revolutionary Invention
Zoflora was Nathan Thornton’s great creation. It was originally developed for use in public places to eliminate odours from smoke etc and kill germs in factories, cinemas, dance and concert halls.
Mr Thornton had a large brass pressure sprayer which he took to these premises and sprayed Zoflora all around to demonstrate its beneficial effects. People were so impressed with these wonderful aromas that they wanted to use Zoflora in their own homes.
Fragrant Solutions
Zoflora has always been available in many different fragrances and sizes, over the years. Some earlier fragrances included Honeysuckle, Hawthorn, Violet and Night Scented Stocks, while others such as Bouquet and Lavender have stood the test of time and are still as popular now as they were nearly 100 years ago.
The success of Zoflora, over the years, has been due in no small part, to the quality of the product itself, including the long-lasting, high quality authentic fragrance, which in Zoflora is at a much higher concentration than is usual for household products.
Now, Zoflora has a really loyal customer following with over 2 million households buying the brand in the UK alone. In recent years the company has invested in a multi-million pound manufacturing and packing facility for Zoflora based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in order to cope with increasing demand.

How To Dilute
Mop It
Wipe away visible dirt, plus bacteria and germs that enter your home on people’s feet or that your pets bring in from outside. From utility rooms to bathrooms, Zoflora can be diluted in water and used with a mop on tiles, lino and most other hard flooring. Zoflora should not come into contact with polished wood.
How To Dilute
Dilute 1 part Zoflora to 40 parts water. E.g. 1 capful of Zoflora (10ml) added to 400ml of water.
Protect your hands and use rubber gloves, and always wash hands after use.
Wipe It
Tackle surfaces around the home from the kitchen to the bedroom using a cloth and bucket. For best results, remove heavy soiling first then wipe away the bacteria. But remember, Zoflora should not come into contact with polished wood. With soft furnishings always check for colour fastness first.
How To Dilute
Soak It
Use Zoflora straight from the bottle to fight nasty odours caused by bacteria in your drains and plugholes. Or give your toilet bowl an injection of bacteria-busting fragrance and disinfect your toilet brush at the same time. Remember, Zoflora is flammable when not diluted so do not expose it to open flames or apply direct heat.
How To Use
Use a capful of Zoflora in bacteria concentrated areas such as drains and toilet brush holders. Protect your hands and use rubber gloves, and always wash hands after use.
